More Cowbell
Yet another METAMOMENT that required a post: last week, when everyone was happily watching South Park, my girl and I were hanging out at home talking and it came out in our discussion that she had never seen or heard of the Heavy Metal feature film, which resulted in a furious Wikipedia research session and a flurry of downloads from the original soundtrack. Unbenownst to us, Matt and Trey were airing their own homage to this classic animated film...AT THE SAME TIME. Post modern, right? Anyways, I was too young for the explicit nature of alot of the stories in the film when it first came out, but that didn't stop me from rocking the fuck out to the soundtrack. Blue Öyster Cult were totally badass with classic 70s neo-futurist album art, and lots of ominous sci-fi/occult story-telling type songs. And they had lasers.

No, NOT The Tarantino Flick...
DIRTY LITTLE SECRET ALERT: I really like drum and bass. Just before I started my semi-gargantuan (You know, I've always liked that word...”gargantuan"... so rarely have an opportunity to use it in a sentence) rap recording project, I went through and ripped a crate of my more accessible DnB discs. Well, as fate would have it, one of the bartenders at my middle-management-after-work-crowd gig is a DnB head, and someone over at the Low Bee board started a thread at the same time. POST MODERN META! So figured I'd share the track that I shared with them. Apparently, the dude Alex Reece is one of the founders of the whole jazzy DnB sound, so I'm pretty stoked to have this track in my crates.

Oh No He's Here!
OK, I've now hit a pocket of 'LA Rap' in my ongoing convert-all-my-hip-hop-doubles-to-MP3 project, and this is great for me to relive my college radio days. If you were in LA in '92 and weren't into The Pharcyde, then there was something seriously wrong with you. One of the classic bits from that first album was a skit where they are all waiting for their weed guy to show up. As fate would have it, the good people at Delicious Vinyl decided to record a follow up record to that skit with the actual weed guy! Needless to say, Quinton's Here was a pretty big record, but I don't think it really made it past the Rockies. Anyhoo, this single was laced with not 1, but 3(!) more skits of some jazzy music and background noise of people waiting (again!) for Quinton to show up. So what I did here was to edit all of the skits together into one long jazzy background type track. This is also one of the earliest appearances of Jazzyfatnastees. So call your weed dude, pack your last bowl and chill to this.

Something Freaky
While I enjoy sharing, I come from the tail-end of the 'old-school' DJ mentality of holding your cards close to your chest and not revealing my lesser-to-unknown gems so that biters can take my shit. I mean, I covered up the labels to a banging *NSYNC remix I got just cause people would bug out so much over it and no one knew about it. So I feel like I'm giving you all a pinkie toe today. This is a banging boogie gem from the man who helped define the G Funk sound with his well known hit "I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You". Check the dialogue in the middle - PRICELSS.

Wednesday Remix Club #8
Oh kay, been out of the country for the last week, so posting slowed to a stand-still there, but now I'm back. So why not kick it off with a little off the wall remix action?
This is probably a forgotten one for good reason, but I figured I'd share just for curiosity's sake. I mean, when was the last time you were jonesing for the T.R.O.Y. remix? Well, here it is. Doesn't stand up to the OG, but still a nice listen nonetheless.

Hey Ralphie Boy!
So it's been a minute since I last posted as I've been moving into my new place with my girl. Bad thing is not finding records when you go to look for them. Good thing is finding records you haven't really listened to, and rescuing them from the "Sell" pile. This is one of those gems. It's a 17 minute bonanza of beats that if you can get through the first 5 1/2 minutes then you will be paid off handsomely.
