Santa Parties Too
So while looking for a label scan for Super-Jay's Santa's Rap Party, I came across this. F@*king awesome. And here is Super-Jay's ode to the fat man as well.

Brand Nubian Rocks The Set
You ever have those seredipitous moments in your life? Well I've had about 3 in the last month, and they're all record related. First, Ike Turner passed this week, about 1 month to the day after I made this post. Then the big man Cosmo Baker does a Pete Rock and a Diamond D tribute mixes right as I'm recording these two tracks: Pete's remix of "Slow Down", and Diamond's remix of "Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down". Get on MY level.

Shhh...I'm Listening!
I'm a terrible eavesdropper. My girlfriend hates it cause we'll be at dinner and I'll be paying attention to the next table and not to her. But I can't help it - there's too many dumbasses and douchebags having idiotic conversations to NOT eavesdrop. Having lived in LA for 9 years, and now NYC for 7, I find the whole LA/NY competition really hilarious. I've found that most NYCers that say they hate LA have spent very little time there, and base it solely on the fact that Hollywood is there. Case in point: tonite some Becky was blabbing about "I hate LA. I hate the traffic, the fake girls, I just hate everything it stands for. I liked San Diego though." Hilarious. Like there are less folks with plastic surgery in NY, and her whole San Diego experience was celebrating New Years in the hotel bar with her parents. If she really likes hippy surfer towns better, what the hell is she doing in NY? Guess what folks? NY is filled with just as much bullshit as LA, it just smells different, and has more Europeans.
Enough bitching for one nite - work it!

THURSDAY THURSDAY THURSDAY
Reunited with my boy MoRTaL for my monthly nite in Park Slope. Come check it...
In the meantime, here is a mix I finally finished that is going on 5 months old. (A testament to how lazy I am.) This is actually a refined version of the set I played at the Blow Your Horn party back in July. It's a (mostly) 90's hip hop set. Enjoy.

6 Million Ways To Die
Ahhh, the gravelly voiced flavor of 9 Double M aka Nine. This dude was hot for a minute first popping up on Six Million Ways To Die with Funkmaster Flex, then blew up solo with "Whutcha Want". Me and my boys loved the b-side to his second single - "The Cypha". And I've also thrown in the harder to find Portishead remix of his first hit.

They Tell Us That, We Lost Our Tails
I'm gonna let you in on a little secret: I <3 DEVO. Truly one of the greatest American bands ever. These guys were really ahead of their time in my book. The progenitors of the domestic art-punk aesthetic, making their own instruments, scathing social commentary that went over a lot of people's heads, and some of the best damn videos/movies before MTV clogged the airwaves with screaming tweens shouting out their homies in the 'burbs.

We Went All Around The Planet
Damn, what can I say about this? This song was HUUUUGE in LA at the time when it came out. This was the original line up of the The Gold State Project (Ahmad was later replaced by Xzibit after he got born again and left his major label deal) which was originally being called The Golden State Warriors. Everyone was buzzing about this with good reason. Bangin production and bad ass rhymes from 3 of the West Coast's most original rappers at the time. Thank god I was still doing college radio, cause there was no commercial 12" release for this track.
