The Dust Brothers. Fuckin' A. These dudes started a musical revolution. These guys ignited a serious fire in the West Coast hip hop scene in the late 80s. Check the resume: Young MC, Tone Loc, Beastie Boys*, Def Jef. They even did a remix of Mmm Bop. Hate all you want chucklefuck.


*yes I know they are a New York band, but they were living in LA when they met the Dust Brothers and recorded Paul's Boutique, and that's good enough for me.

So this week I went through my Sam Sever 12s, and remembered just how dope and unsung this dude was. Responsible for a part of the early 90s Def Jam sound (3rd Bass, Downtown Science, Nikki D), this guy was major! I was surprised at how many great tracks he produced or had a hand in. So here is his impeccable remix of 3rd Bass' 3rd Bass Theme a.k.a. Portrait Of The Artist As A Hood.

Another gem that came up on the iPod this weeekend and immeeediately wanted to share it. Theeese guys freeekin' rock, and this track is pure disco-boogieee gold! They made more of splash in the earleee 80s, so it's nice to heeer their ealieeer work.

I've been recording a shitton of my 90s hip hop doubles, and I've been coming across a bunch of dope remixes. So I decided to try out a 'weekly segment' type post and focus on dope remixes. Here's a remix of "Grand Verbalizer What Time Is It" from X Clan. I both loved these dudes and was scared shitless by them (not because of their strong pro-black stance, but more because of how much gold Brother J and Professor X had in their noses)

You know what, James Todd Smith just may be the greatest of all time. I mean, he may not compete with that other Smith when it comes to acting, but he truly is one of our generations greatest entertainers. Look how skinny dude used to be! Anyways, here's one of my personal faves from his underrated Walking With A Panther album. And yes, Tina does have an extremely large derriere. (as does Brenda and Lisa).
